<p>The Southern Carpathians are the highest mountain range in Romania, stretching over 250 kilometers from the Prahova Valley to the Danube Narrow Pass. Walkers can discover untouched and wild nature here. Spectacular peaks, crystal-clear mountain lakes, dense forests and villages with archaic ways of life and work transport visitors to a time long thought forgotten. The hiking guide presents 46 easy to difficult routes: the easy to moderately difficult hikes often follow comfortable forest paths and are designed as circular routes. Caves and castles can often be discovered along the way. The more challenging routes often lead over steep scree fields and through narrow passages in the rock. Alpine experience, excellent fitness and sure-footedness are required. Many of the routes can be combined into multi-day trekking tours. Each route has brief information, a hiking map with the route marked, an informative elevation profile and detailed directions. GPS tracks are available for download. <br></p><p><br></p>
