Description

Love at first sight, this is especially true for the Dolomites. There is probably no one who can resist their allure. It's the contrasts that make the Dolomites so unique: towering limestone castles above wide, open valleys, bold rock needles next to karst plateaus, narrow gullies above huge snow bowls.

At first glance, however, the peaks don't look very ski-friendly: too steep, too forbidding, too rocky. At second glance, however, the connoisseur will see that there are definitely attractive destinations for ski tourers. A summit is not always the goal; routes often end in a saddle or on a ridge at the foot of a steep summit structure. Nevertheless, between the photogenic rocky peaks, there are always summits that can be climbed to the highest point on skis. And so ski tourers are on the move in all parts of the Dolomites, even if you will be alone on many tours, because here much is concentrated on the few classics, the possibilities to the left and right of them are often overlooked.

In the second, updated edition of this ski touring guide, Stefan Herbke presents 50 routes in the Sennes and Fanes Group, the Lagorai Group, the Marmolada and in the rock massifs of the Odle Group, Monte Cristallo, the Pala Group and the Sesto Dolomites. Detailed ascent descriptions, route maps with marked routes and route descriptions with information on valley towns and starting points, altitude differences and ascent times, requirements, avalanche risk and slope orientation, favorable season and variants make it easier to select and plan routes and find your way around the mountain.
