Description

Trekking in Langtang, Gosainkund and Helambu takes walkers into a landscape that may not be at the foot of an eight-thousander, but is in no way inferior to the Everest or Annapurna region.

As a special addition, the 2nd edition describes the lonely paths of the Tamang Heritage Trail and the deep insights into the traditional way of life of the mountain people that are possible there. Hiking trails in the shade of giant trees alternate with breathtaking views of the snowy peaks and high valleys right on the Tibetan border, where a seven-thousand-meter peak, the Langtang Lirung, dominates the scenery. Its glaciers are reached in the upper Langtang valley, where the air is already quite thin.
<p

The proximity to Tibet is also noticeable culturally, as the inhabitants of the region belong to Lamaism, the Tibetan form of Buddhism. In addition to the Tamang and Tibetans, the Sherpa people also live here, whose members are associated with plenty of legendary summit expeditions.
<p

The hikes follow the old connecting paths between the settlements and high alpine pastures as well as old pilgrimage trails, so there is always the opportunity to gain an insight into everyday life in the Nepalese high mountains. A highlight in the best sense of the word is the crossing of the Laurebina La, which is over 4,600 m high, as well as the warm contact with the Buddhist mountain population.
